The plain version
Terms of Sale
There is nothing for sale on this site, because the site is a demonstration. These terms describe how the fictional house would trade, and exist mostly because a catalogue without terms looks unfinished.
Impressions
Each impression is numbered on the verso in pencil and recorded in the daybook. Two impressions of the same plate are sisters, not twins: plate wear means every pull after the first is a little lighter, and the daybook entry tells you which run yours came from.
Condition
Margins are full and described honestly, including defects. A deckled edge in the north margin of Saltwick Reach is a feature of the stock, not damage, and the description says so. What the description does not say, the buyer may assume is not true of the plate.
Return
Fourteen days, rolled back in the same tube, postage at the house's cost if the description was wrong and the buyer's cost if the buyer merely changed their mind about the wall.
Commissions
Half the fee opens the ledger, half closes it. The client holds a right of refusal on the working proof, once. After the proof is accepted the plate is committed, because a burin cannot be un-cut and the house will not pretend it can.
The fiction
Meridian & Co., Saltwick Bay, its surveyors, plates, prices and press are invented for a demonstration catalogue. Any resemblance to a real engraving house is a compliment neither party intended.
